Day 7: Who was the first villain you admired, even if only a little? Why?

I, to this day, really admire Captain Nemo from 20.000 Leagues under the Sea.

Not sure if he was "the first"... I like many villains! But admiration is more specific thank "liking".

As the reader, you are supposed to feel, like Pierre, that being constrained there is both a bad and a good thing and to feel a deep admiration for this peculiar man. That's why I don't perceive Nemo as a villain... but he has his own morals, that's for sure: in terms of "doing evil actions that go against common morals" he definitely fits the definition of a villain.

Nemo is a striking character, the mechanical genius to build the Nautilus and the marvelous scientific mind and appreciation he had are absolutely worthy of admiration and respect... And the description of his library fills me with delight!

Not to mention all his (fanta)scientific creations!

Same goes for Robur (which I've read many years later) is he kinda of an asshole? Yeah, but damn he was really right about airships! XD


I have since enjoyed many "evil geniuses" and other kinds of evil characters, I really like seeing what fictional villains can get up to!

15. When it comes to writing or art, what is your source for ideas/inspiration? Do you just brainstorm? Rely on talking to others? Workshop? Or do you hang out in prompting communities?

The initial ideas just come naturally to my brain. Sometimes ideas come from sharing headcanons with other people, but most of the times I just have a bunch of ideas floating around my mind.

Tropes, visually interesting things I've seen in other people's art, things I've read... everything is a potential source of inspiration.
It can be as simple as seeing something IRL and thinking it looks interesting and I should make a drawing about that.

After the initial idea, depending on the complexity, I do brainstorming for what I want specifically and moodboarding for references and aesthetic purposes ♡♡♡♡♡


In all honesty, I have such a big backlog of ideas that I never force myself to have new ones, and yet they still keep coming to me XD

13. What is something you think fandom, as a whole, needs? Either literally, like a service, or figuratively, like a 'head slap'?

A place like Furaffinity, the AO3 equivalent for fanart.

Right now everything is decentralized and depending on what you're looking for you have to go through a bunch of websites to find fanart, or be in the right discord server... don't get me started on twitter and instagram (finding and promoting stuff there is basically a nightmare with a devilish algorithm).

And I love AO3, but I never go there to find fanarts (Although there are beautiful artists on there), it's clear its primary function is for fanfiction.
I don't think AO3 should or can change to include a fanart friendly UI, but I'd love a sister site with similiar tagging interface and philosophy.

11. How open are you about being in fandom to your non-fandom friends/family?

To varying degrees.

Everyone knows I'm into media (movie, tv series, books, comics, anime, you name it ;) ), tbh that's just a normal hobby nowadays and i don't keep that secret.

Then there's shipping. I don't share my shipping squee for same sex couples with my family because they'd think it too weird (tho my parents are quite accepting and they probably suspect a thing or two). Shipping het or canon couples is pretty much normal gossiping tbh XD

My sister and one of my best friends know everything 👀
(I don't show some stuff I draw and kinks I have to my sister, but she knows I am deep down the hole)

My highschool friends know about my shipping but it basically never comes up in conversation so maybe they forgot? (I had a very intense "yaoi" phase and I basically wouldn't shut up about my OTPs, I basically introduced them to the concept of shipping and dragged them along XD I even passed them some fanfictions during highschool XD)
They are not in fandom rn, that I know of. Two of them used to draw fanart and read some fanfiction and one has recently started reading fanfictions out of boredom, but all gen to my knowledge.

I wonder if I'm the kinky one or they just hide it better ahah!

09. Is there any fandom that you regret getting into?

I don't regret ever getting involved in the canonical source (it's one of my most loved books/tv series ♡♡♡), but I was honestly super bummed out when I went to look for Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrel fan content on tumblr... the fans behaviour was... not encouraging.
(I never joined the fandom bc of this reason, so I'll just call it a 'bad fandom experience' )

Everyone in my fave's tag (I love Stephen and Stephen/Gentleman) was admonishing others about how problematic and bad it was to ship them and the one I found who shipped them kept referring to the ship and themself as trash ("trash" was used so much that I installed a word blocker for firefox to avoid seeing it while looking for content I liked 🙃😬)

I possibly remember only the bad parts because the content for the ship was not much, so it was either people talking about how abusive it was or people shipping other pairings...

I think I took it quite badly, probably because it was very similiar to anti behaviour (so much virtue signaling help!) before antis were a thing and I was not accostumed to it as I am now.

Maybe one day I'll heal from this and create for JSMN ♡♡♡

07. What is your favorite celebrity interaction from any fandom you've had?

I'm not overtly fond of celebrity interactions ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I guess my favourite - if we're counting an Italian Youtuber as a celebrity XD which I AM - is that time Yotobi made a video about his fans and he innocently read prompts (he thought they were fanfiction titles XD I WISH) from what was basically a NSFW fest and he read one of my prompts saying he would really love to read that fic XD

I wonder how much he knew, the fest was literally called PORN fest so like... I am so thankful he decided not to go the cruel/making fun of this route!!

I was squeeing so hard at all his love and affection for his fans ♡♡♡♡ It was not cringey either because he made it so cute! He kept saying he loved all the proof of our love for him and our creativity and gave everyone his blessing to go on creating 😭😭😭 He really understood the love that goes in fanfictions and fan content ♡♡♡


It's not really an interaction either, but as I said, they are not for me ;)

03. Who is the first character that you fell in love with?

This is hard 🤔 I don't have the answer and my memory is foggy.

If we are saying "fell in love" as "a character I really liked" and not "a character I had a crush on" (this second one is too difficult to answer) then I think Batman from Batman TAS was one of the firsts... I had a doll/action figure and I really liked the cartoon!!

Later I really liked André from The Rose of Versailles ;___; so many feelings!!!

I'm sure there were many characters I've liked between and before these, but these two came to mind...

I've decided to do squidgiepdx June Something 2020

I'll answer a question a day excluding weekends, I'll keep those for personal posts (sat+sunday), so I should finish neatly on the 30th of June :)

First question ahead!


01. What's a new fandom that you've fallen into since the last June Something/in the last year?

Ohhhh, I've seen a lot of things I've liked and I'm totally a fan of! I don't even know how to measure "being into a fandom"
The anime Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! has inspired me tons. It's the story of three (very different) highschool girls with the dream of making an anime. A love letter to animation, friendship and imagination ♡
I LOVE slice of life and odd girls doing what they love! I've fallen in love and I want to draw these amazing characters (yeah it went to my pantagruelian list of "Want to Draw" ♡)

The most notable fandom for fic reading is for sure Sonic the Hedgehog 2020. Robotnik/Agent Stone is so perfect for me! A villanous mad scientist with odd quirks and a loving government agent lackey with BDSM dynamics??? SIGN ME UP.  I've read so many fics and I'm not tired XD
Honestly I haven't seen the movie yet, but the gifsets about them are quite... interesting 👀 (tag on tumblr is stobotnik in case you're curious about these two)

Last but not least Animal Crossing: New Horizons, I don't play but I've seen TONS of fanart and I've read a couple of fics too. My favourites are (not in order)
- Timmy and Tommy: top cuteness rating, they are too CUTE ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡
- Tom Nook, of course ♡
- Redd
- The Dodo brothers

I love their cute animal forms, but it's also so nice to see artist draw human versions of them!
