Nice and mossy

In February, with my adversion to screens, I had switched more to life drawing. Sketching from life is quite intimidating, but the more I do it the more my confidence grows.

I went to a local event and met new people and one of these people was this guy – he made and impression because he asked me how often do I think of the Roman Empire, which is a meme that I find really funny and also me and my friend group... well we think about the Roman Empire a lot – so when I met him again at another event I totally remembered him and since I was there at a table drawing, after a chit-chat I asked him if he could stay a bit so I could draw him.

Even with my anxieties the experience was overwhelmingly positive <3 Now that I read back on my account I am describing it as a very fanfiction-y moment ahah but it felt so to me so you'll forgive the romanticization of the facts :)

I really missed doing dreamwidth posts, it's been difficult to do so, I'm catching up now and trying a new thing: speech to text.

Since I started new medications it became hard to stay still in front of a screen, on my phone too, I am not exactly restless more like bubbling with energy :) that's good because I made my cats a scratching stand and they really love it, and I did a lot of cleaning, I've been putting away stuff from my childhood, old 90s stuff and really cool to look at it now. I am trying now speech to text for this post so I can see if I can just dictate posts while I'm doing some traditional media exarcises, the tool is not too bad it seems – I still have to edit all after I've finished dictating because it's very approximative but better than not writing at all.

So to say since July thing have happened would be an euphemism!

Offline World news aside, the internet has never changed faster... Thank God I still got DW!
I have now a blue sky account to post art and the funny thing is i could never post art on Twitter because when I tried making the art account that got immediately suspended for "suspicious activity" XD so that turned out well! and now I'm posting on bluesky and PF mainly and the silly stuff and memes on tumblr

BSky is not so bad for chatting either, talking with other artists is easy enough, the thing I like the most is I can just see what I want - I make different lists and have fandom feed and photos feed and so on...

I finished my first sketchbook which was very emotional for me, since it was my first one.

My sister made another beautiful one, my first sketchbook was also completely done my by my sister (yup, all that beautiful sculpted cover!) and I really love them both! The new one has its cover made from fish wrapping paper pags I got from the supermarket when we bought fish :D so beautiful I had to salvage it and re-use it!

I'm so thankful because good sketchbook is really important. I never realised how good I had it, until I started using a Flyin' Tiger old sketchbook and I couldn't even erase... I did a part of my Merlinktober on that one –because the fish-wrapper-one was not finished at the time, but the glue came off and the pages detached, that is, in addition to the troubles of the paper quality.

I will re-bing the FT one to use for storyboards and paper sketches, but for the heavy-lifting the new one will handle it <3

Time flies and without realizing my last post was in January!

It feels like yesterday - a lil update post is in order :)

🍉 I want to express my full support to Palestine, I am against genocide and they have a right to exist as a State.
My country’s politicians have been huge hypocrites, the only thing we agree on is that Israelis civilians and innocent victims do not deserve to suffer. And neither do civilians and innocents in any country!
I am expressing my solidarity so that my silence does not pass as acquiescence.

2023 was hazy. A lot of good things happened, but I struggled with change and mental health so I didn't really manage to keep track of things as I would have liked to.

Even if I didn't achieve most of my resolutions they year was full of joys, so I do not feel bad about this.

In 2024 I would like to have more balance and structure ♡ I have a separate rl list, but here's some resolutions (which is also snowflake_challenge prompt)

🌶️ Kinkalot went amazingly! I had a lot of fun and gave life to 6 new works, which I'll update to PF as soon as I make time for it.
I was so happy to be in Knight Team again, yeah it's the people who make the team, but I am attached ahaha and I always draw Percival and Gwaine: it feels more fitting if I'm a Knight!

The Merlin fandom is still so amazing and lively, I am more stunned each year that passes.

Community.

People who share something; be it sharing an interest, sharing love for a character or a show, sharing a view of a media, sharing their fanworks, sharing ideas, headcanons, but sharing "hate" too XD I mean *some* bad writing decisions have made fic writers' fortune for decades!

Anyway, Sharing the idea that we can go further than just consuming a canon work passively.

From friends to acquaintances, to one time interactions, I think we are all connected by threads of things we have in common that makes us gather to express ourself and find each other :)


Alternatively I think fandom is caring enough about a work to want to talk about it more and do more for it 🤔 there are definitely some cases where there's a "fandom of one" ahah <3 stay strong rare media people!

Day 5: If you could go back in time and help create a foundational work (be it book, show, movie, etc.) what would it be and what would your role be?

Immediately I'd say a monster/alien design, both concepting and practical special effects creation. Absolutely creating Audrey II or any Yautja (Predator) would be the most amazing legacy to me!

It's not my actual field of work, nor will it be, nor it's what my art is focusing on at the moment ahah... but collaborating to such amazing creature designs and practical effect would be spectacular.

More related to what I actually like doing in art I would have liked to work with the Giussani sisters at the Diabolik comics :) my favourite thing would have been to do lettering for them!

They were pioneers, it would have been an honour working with them! In this life I don't have big ambitions to be as successful as that, but I do hope to create something as beautiful 🙂

As per my last year post I'm progressing with collage experimentation.

Finished projects are two a5 cards, the fronts are one Roman themed and the other with Rupert Giles (my sister's favourite) and the back have a simple book page background with a 'Thanks' stamp


I still need to get better at taking non blurry pictures, taking a good photo is 90% of my troubles about collaging!

Junk journaling techniques as inking borders - distressing - stamping and mixed media is what I like to do most, but the JJ aesthetic is usually vintage in a cottagecore way, while I'm using mostly fandom cut outs* for the focal point and trying to keep it less cluttered.

*mostly comic reprints, some photocopies and old magazines cut outs I saved


Besides creating, I've been wondering around looking for fandom analog crafters, but my searching skills are either very rusty or internet has become too big ahah! I will not desist!

A part of me doesn't even know which socials to look into: I'm sure Tik Tok has more people than DW, but there everything is so fast and I don't even want to download the app... reddit? tumblr? I honestly don't know, so for now I am sailing the quiet lands of DW 👍 it's what feel most like home :)
